President of YassFM Alf Atkins is pleased to announce that Yass' community radio station is back on the air. After repairs were made to the antenna, normal transmission resumed at 12pm yesterday.
The station has been off the air since the evening of Sunday June 13, meaning it was off air for just over five weeks. Board member Brian Millett previously expressed concern that listeners may get out of the habit of tuning in. It may now take time for the station to rebuild its audience.
The antenna had sustained water damage over a long period. Running repairs had been made for quite some time, but the situation finally became urgent. Mr Atkin was able to source a grant from the Community Broadcasting Foundation to have it fixed. However, ongoing delays from the installers of the equipment forced the station to remain off the air until this week.
