30 September 2007—New Courts Official Opening

The newly refurbished tennis courts at Murrumbateman were opened on 30 September by Agricultural Bureau President Greg Butler. Murrumbateman residents now have access to a state of the art tennis facility.

The refurbishment project entailed extending the court playing area to meet competition standards, erection of new perimeter fencing, laying of fine weave synthetic grass playing surface, rectifying drainage issues around the court, concreting paths and the installation of a garden bed.

Murrumbateman Tennis Club president Jill Buckfield said the club is delighted with its new courts. "We could not have achieved this without the generous financial support from Yass Valley Council and the Murrumbateman Agricultural Bureau," she said.

"The old tennis courts served the village well for half a century, but towards the end, in spite of considerable efforts in keeping them going there was definite home ground advantage in dealing with the Murrumbateman bounce! This is now clearly a thing of the past, as we now have fantastic new synthetic grass courts."
